Why the FCC Should Repeal Its Unconstitutional News Distortion Policy
Plus free speech, good governance, and more…
FCC: We and Protect Democracy filed a petition asking the FCC to repeal its news distortion policy—on behalf of seven former FCC chairs and Commissioners of both parties, plus four other former senior FCC officials. The policy violates the First Amendment: it allows the government to influence broadcasters’ speech, chill editorial freedom, and weaponize vague standards to punish disfavored viewpoints. The petition was mentioned by NBC, The Washington Post, The Hill, National Review, Law360 (paywall), Politico (paywall), and several other publications.
Podcast: On the latest Tech Policy Podcast, Corbin is joined by his podcast BFF Ari Cohn (FIRE) for a survey of the Trump administration’s many attacks on the First Amendment.
Good Governance: Berin and Bilal participated in The People’s Oversight Hearing, a mock hearing organized by Public Knowledge featuring lawmakers, former officials, and civil society leaders exposing regulatory failures and Congress’s neglect of oversight. The event was mentioned by Broadband Breakfast.
